| Strawberry Marsh - click to enlarge |
Centrally located and immediately accessible from the city's newest bridge, Strawberry Marsh has long served residents
of the river as a source of traditional sweet grass prized by the Mi'kmaq people. The cultural tie-in and storytelling potential
enhances the marsh’s value to the Ecomuseum network.
Strawberry Marsh is located on the riverfront within the city, and offers a diverse mix of plant and wildlife, creating
exciting potential for nature-based recreation and education. Recreational walking trails lead to a wealth of birding activity,
fresh salt water marshes and panoramic water-level views of other Ecomuseum sites, including Beaubears Island, Vye's Beach
and Ritchie Wharf.
Key Goals and Strategies • Preserve and enhance the natural integrity and value of the marsh. •
Enhance the trail experience. • Leverage the interpretive value of the site as a natural setting within the city. •
Improve the aesthetic appeal of the adjacent new lagoon.
