Historic Water Street

Historic Water Street
Historic Water Street

Historic Water Street is another key component of the downtown Miramichi-Chatham revitalization effort. Much like St. Andrews, New Brunswick or Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, the area offers a quaintness and intimacy that can be preserved and leveraged as a unique visitation destination.

Reminiscent of its past and faithful to its origins, Historic Water Street is a rich, historic district offering a variety of dining and shopping options. Typical of the street's quaint and intimate setting is the Old Post Office building. This tastefully restored stone structure provides an ideal historic setting for the Miramichi Open River Ecomuseum's southern gateway and Genealogical Research Centre.

Key Goals and Strategies
• Preserve, exhibit and interpret the historical architecture of the commercial district.
• Transform the district into a vibrant gateway centre.
• Develop and market the district as a special heritage and tourism product.
